Itinerary
Day 1 - Fez - Ifrane - Midelt - Merzouga
Your desert adventure commences in Fez as you begin your journey towards the Sahara. Our comfortable transport will take you south, with the first notable stop in Ifrane. This charming town, with its distinct European architecture, offers a unique contrast to traditional Moroccan settings. Continuing our ascent into the Middle Atlas Mountains, we traverse through the verdant cedar forests near Azrou, providing opportunities to observe Barbary macaques in their natural habitat.
The scenic drive continues through breathtaking landscapes, characterized by dense forests, natural springs, and striking rock formations, punctuated by traditional Berber villages. As we descend towards the pre-Saharan plains, a midday break is scheduled in Midelt, a town renowned for its mineral and fossil wealth. Following lunch, our journey continues towards Merzouga, with planned stops at panoramic viewpoints offering spectacular vistas of vast palm tree oases stretching across the horizon.
Upon arrival in Rissani, we transition to a 4x4 vehicle for the final leg of our journey to Merzouga. By the late afternoon you will be greeted by your guide and the awaiting camels and transition into the Erg Chebbi Dunes. As you gently sway atop your camel, witness the captivating spectacle of the sunset painting the desert landscape in vibrant hues. After approximately 1 hour, you will arrive at our comfortable desert camp nestled amidst the golden sands. Here, you will be welcomed with Moroccan mint tea and enjoy a delicious dinner under the starlit sky. Your overnight stay will be in a traditional Berber tent.
Day 2 - Merzouga - Tafilalet - Fez
Awaken early to experience the magical sunrise over the Sahara dunes, truly unforgettable moments. Following this breathtaking spectacle, enjoy a leisurely walk across the dunes before returning to the desert camp. After breakfast and a refreshing shower, we will take the 4x4 back to Rissani.
From Rissani, our journey back to Fez commences, including comfortable stops for rest and lunch along the way. The return route offers further opportunities to appreciate the diverse Moroccan landscape. We anticipate arriving back in Fez in the late afternoon and marking the conclusion of your enriching Fez to Merzouga desert tour.
