Itinerary
Upon your arrival at Marrakech, you will be warmly greeted by our professional driver and transferred to your comfortable hotel or traditional Riad. After settling in and taking some time to relax, you will join our knowledgeable, multilingual guide for an introductory orientation tour of Marrakech. As evening descends, we will venture into the legendary Djemaa El Fna square, a vibrant spectacle of storytellers, musicians, food stalls, and captivating performers. Enjoy dinner and a restful overnight stay in your Marrakech accommodation.
Following a delightful breakfast, prepare for a comprehensive guided tour of Marrakech, a city that enchants the senses. Our exploration includes the tranquil Menara Gardens, featuring a picturesque reflecting pool and stunning views of the Atlas Mountains, and the iconic Koutoubia Minaret, a masterpiece of Islamic architecture. We will delve into the historical Saadian Tombs, marvel at the intricate Berber artistry within the Dar Si Said Museum, and wander through the opulent Bahia Palace, showcasing the grandeur of Moroccan craftsmanship. A delicious lunch will be served at a traditional local restaurant. After breakfast, we commence our journey towards the majestic High Atlas Mountains, traversing the scenic Tizi-n-Tichka pass, which soars to an altitude of 2260 meters. This route offers breathtaking panoramic views as we wind through charming Berber villages and witness the ever-changing landscapes and vibrant colors of the mountains. We will pause at the pass for a revitalizing mint tea, allowing you to fully appreciate the stunning scenery. Descending the other side, we arrive at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a remarkably preserved fortified village that has served as a backdrop for numerous international films, including "Gladiator" and "Lawrence of Arabia." After exploring this historical marvel and enjoying lunch, we continue to Ouarzazate, known as the "Hollywood of Africa." Here, we will visit the impressive Taourirt Kasbah and the renowned Atlas Film Studios, the largest in Africa. Our journey then takes us through the picturesque Valley of Roses and the dramatic Dades Valley, culminating in the breathtaking Dades Gorge. We will arrive in time for sunset and settle into a traditional and charming hotel nestled within the gorge for dinner and a peaceful overnight stay.
Following breakfast and an optional morning stroll through the impressive Dades Gorges, we embark on the "Road of 1000 Kasbahs." Our route takes us through the village of Tinghir and its historic Jewish quarter before reaching the towering Todra Gorges, where sheer limestone cliffs rise dramatically on either side of the Todra River. Enjoy lunch amidst this natural wonder and take time to walk through the impressive gorge. In the afternoon, we continue our journey towards the Sahara Desert and the captivating Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga. We will pass through the towns of Erfoud and Rissani, known for their fossil workshops and vibrant souks. Arriving in Merzouga before sunset, you will check into a comfortable Kasbah-style hotel at the foot of the magnificent Erg Chebbi dunes. Enjoy dinner accompanied by the rhythmic sounds of Saharan drums, creating an authentic desert ambiance. Overnight at your hotel.
After a leisurely morning to shower and relax, we will embark on an exhilarating 4x4 excursion into the heart of the desert. This approximately 3.5-hour tour will showcase the diverse landscapes of the Erg Chebbi dunes, including dramatic black volcanic rock formations. We will visit small Berber villages and have the unique opportunity to share lunch with a local Berber family in their traditional tent, experiencing their warm hospitality firsthand. Our journey will also follow sections of the former Paris-Dakar Rally route. We will visit a fascinating site where you can witness the process of extracting fossils from the earth. In the late afternoon, prepare for an unforgettable experience: a camel trek into the mesmerizing Erg Chebbi dunes. As the sun begins to set, painting the sand with vibrant hues, we will reach our traditional Berber desert camp nestled amidst the towering dunes. Enjoy a delicious dinner under a starlit sky, accompanied by the enchanting rhythms and songs of Berber and Touareg musicians. Overnight in a comfortable Berber tent.
An optional early start allows you to witness a spectacular sunrise over the golden sand dunes, a truly magical experience. After breakfast at the desert camp, we will return to our hotel in Merzouga by camel. Following a refreshing shower, we commence our journey towards the imperial city of Fez. Our route takes us through Rissani and the scenic Ziz Valley, offering panoramic views of palm groves and dramatic landscapes. We will stop for lunch in Medilt. Continuing our journey, we traverse the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing through cedar forests inhabited by Barbary macaques. We will make a stop in Ifrane, a charming town with a distinctive Swiss-Alpine architectural style, built by the French during the protectorate. Arriving in Fez in the late afternoon, you will check into your hotel for dinner and a relaxing overnight stay.
Following an early breakfast, we depart Fez and begin our journey towards Casablanca. Our first stop will be the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage site. We will spend time exploring these fascinating 2000-year-old remnants, gaining insights into life during the Roman Empire. Continuing our journey, we arrive in Meknes, another significant imperial city. We will embark on a tour of its impressive ramparts, featuring monumental gates such as Bab Berdaïne and Bab Khemis, dating back to the 17th century. Explore the former royal stables. We will visit the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, a historically significant mosque that was once accessible to non-Muslim visitors. Our tour continues through the famed Bab Mansour El-Aleuj gate, leading onto the vast Place El-Hedim. Across the square, the Dar Jamaï Museum showcases a rich collection of Moroccan arts and crafts. We will pause for lunch before continuing to Rabat, the modern capital of Morocco, situated on the Atlantic coast. Here, we will admire the imposing red ochre city walls, stretching over 5 kilometers in length, built during the reign of Sultan Yacoub El-Mansour. We will explore the authentic medina and its souks, visit the Kasbah of the Udayas, a historic fortress offering stunning ocean views, and marvel at the Hassan Tower, an unfinished minaret of a grand mosque, and the adjacent Mausoleum of Mohammed V. We will arrive in Casablanca in the late afternoon and check into our hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
After breakfast at your hotel, we will visit the magnificent Hassan II Mosque, the second-largest mosque in the world and an architectural masterpiece. Notably, it is one of the few mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslim visitors. Depending on your departure flight schedule, you will be transferred to Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport (CMN) for your onward journey, marking the end of our tour.
