Itinerary
Day 1 - Marrakech - Ait Ben Haddou - Ouarzazate - Gorges
Your adventure begins from the moment we collect you from your accommodation in Marrakech. We set our course for the High Atlas Mountains, ascending through a series of dramatic hairpin bends to the Tizi n'Tichka pass, situated at an elevation of 2260m. Along the way, witness the landscape transform from plains to mountain valleys dotted with traditional Berber villages. After a stop for mint tea, we descend to the legendary Ksar of Aït Benhaddou.
This UNESCO World Heritage site is one of Morocco's most treasured landmarks. You will have time to explore and discover why it has been chosen as the backdrop for films such as Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and Game of Thrones. Following lunch, our journey continues to Ouarzazate, the gateway to the desert and home to Africa's largest film studios. We will pass the formidable Kasbah of Taourirt before driving through the Valley of Roses and Dades Valley. As dusk settles, we will arrive at the stunning Dades Gorges, where you will check into a comfortable hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Dades Gorges - Todra Gorge - Erfoud - Merzouga
After a delicious breakfast, we will take a short walk to appreciate the sheer rock walls and natural beauty of the Dades Gorges. Our route then takes us along the famous "Road of 1000 Kasbahs" to the neighbouring Todra Gorge. Here, you can wander through a colossal canyon where the river has carved a path between 300-meter-high cliffs. Continuing our drive, we pass through the fossil-rich town of Erfoud and the ancient trading post of Rissani.
As we approach Merzouga in the late afternoon, the conventional road gives way to the sweeping sands of the Sahara. Here, you will be greeted by your camel caravan. We will leave our vehicle behind and embark on an unforgettable camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes. You will witness a spectacular sunset over the sea of sand before arriving at our traditional Berber desert camp. A magical night awaits, complete with Moroccan dinner and the profound silence of the desert under a canopy of stars.
Day 3: Choice of Destination - Return to Marrakech or Continue to Fez
Option A: Merzouga - Marrakech
An early wake-up call from your camel guide provides an opportunity to watch a magical sunrise. Following this experience, you will ride your camel back to the hotel in Merzouga. After a well-deserved breakfast and shower, we begin our journey back to Marrakech. The return drive showcases a different facet of Morocco's beauty, traversing volcanic landscapes and vast rocky plains through the Draa Valley. We will arrive back in Marrakech in the late afternoon, where your tour concludes.
Option B: Merzouga - Ziz Valley - Midelt - Fez
For those wishing to explore more of Morocco, this option offers a captivating journey north. After the spectacular desert sunrise and your camel-back return to Merzouga for breakfast and a shower, we will depart for Fez. The route takes us through the immense Ziz Valley, a verdant oasis of over a million palm trees. We will ascend into the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing through Berber villages and the town of Midelt. Prepare to be charmed by cedar forests near Azrou, the home to the friendly Barbary macaques, and the alpine-style town of Ifrane. We will arrive in Fez in the late afternoon, marking the end of your tour.
